01 Background

Brian has spent over twenty years in people strategy and talent development. The first decade was management consulting with EY, across private, public and non-profit sectors, on Strategy & Operations and People & Organization work; he led regional training programmes and was the Asia lead for a number of industry communities of practice. He then moved in-house, running global talent and leadership initiatives at Bose before joining Lazada as Senior Vice President, Head of Learning and Organization Development for the group.

He now runs Be The Good, a boutique learning and leadership practice built on a two-word purpose: inspire good. He works with global brands and conglomerates like Great Eastern, AIA, Chanel, Burberry, TikTok, CBRE, Jardine Matheson, Standard Chartered Bank and Johnson & Johnson, and also serves in multiple capacities as a pro bono leader, advisor or board member for organisations such as Mentoring SG and the National Youth Council in Singapore.

Old models and old cultures are not the right response to new problems.

What he sees in the field, with more intensity every year, is formal structure and hierarchy dissolving on a weekly basis. Hierarchies flatten, teams form and dissolve as task forces, and the request that keeps landing on his desk is the same: help my people navigate ambiguity, and help them lead without formal authority. His razor for who this work is for follows from that — organisations with at least an openness to adapt. Progressive in the pragmatic sense, not the fashionable one.

His contribution to the Future.Pro framework is its central move, from mindset to identity. Mindset is hard to act on: it is good to have a growth mindset, but then what do you do on Monday? Identity anchors. I am a founder. I am a creator. He carries the Collaborator pillar, and is blunt about why it is not optional — no business problem now sits inside a single function, so nothing can be done in silos. Being a collaborator does not require liking everyone; it requires being equipped to work with and through everyone.

The pillar that most inspires him is the one he did not write. He picks the Creator, because it speaks to him of a renaissance — people bringing into reality things that have not been seen before, and believing they can make something better.
